We are building the team for this programme and are initially seeking to fill the following positions to teach our First Year International Diploma in Business qualification:

0.5 FTE Teacher 

Requires ability to teach Business units.

You will be working with young adults from international backgrounds who have chosen Tasmania as the place they wish to further their education, so similar experience will be beneficial, but otherwise you will be someone with patience and empathy, who will enjoy the challenge of helping these young people achieve their goals.  

To be successful you will have:
  • Minimum masters level qualification in the relevant teaching area
  • An English language teaching qualification is a bonus but not required
  • Experience working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Experience managing classes and students effectively
  • Advanced written, reading and oral communication skills

Teacher registration is not mandatory.

Key Accountabilities
Professional Knowledge
• To complete the teaching and assessment programmes at appropriate levels as required in the schemes and by the policies of the College

Professional Development
• To remain current with educational developments within the subject and participate in related professional development programmes, with a particular focus on developing skills in working with ESL-background student
• To remain current with developments in the delivery of postgraduate education at UTAS
• To take responsibility for being up-to-date with developments in technology and its use in the classroom
• To accept and/or participate in performance appraisals

Teaching Techniques
• To take responsibility for the learning environment, including the quality of the physical environment and the conditions for orderly and effective teaching
• To ensure that teaching delivery is customised to the needs of ESL-background students
• To encourage the use of appropriate technology by students in the subject
• To prepare resource and assessment material as required
• To mark or otherwise assess work thoroughly according to the assessment schedules or other College policies and to record marks and assessment results
• To set appropriate projects and additional work for students to do outside normal College classes

Student Management
• To provide learning experiences which maximise academic progress
• To manage student behaviour effectively
• To manage the class in a culturally appropriate way
• To support the College standards in relation to student behaviour

Motivation of Students
• To motivate each student to achieve their potential in the subject
• To encourage appropriate study and independent learning skills in students
• To provide additional academic and pastoral support as needed for students, including availability for an agreed number of office hours each week.

Effective Communication
• To action promptly, thoroughly and accurately the completion of required returns, forms or procedures and to supply information as requested
• To maintain an attendance record as required
• To adhere to such accounting procedures as may be applicable and requested
• To provide schemes of work and assessment schedules as required
• To report to and meet with parents/agents as required
To be successful you will have:
• Minimum masters level qualification (PhD preferred) in the relevant teaching area 
• An English language teaching qualification
• 2 years’ ESL/EFL teaching experience
• Experience working with students from diverse cultural backgrounds
• Experience managing classes and students effectively
• Advanced written, reading and oral communication skills
