About the role:
We have a great opportunity for an experienced quality assurance specialist to lead our Quality Assurance and Programme Development team.  This role focusses on the implementation of quality assurance processes throughout NZMA, by leading the specialist QA team and working with managers across the organisation to ensure that this is reflected in the practices of staff across NZMA. 

The incumbent maintains a culture of strong compliance and quality assurance and has the responsibility for all Academic Centre activities.  A key aspect of the role is to take the lead for self-assessment, including internal and external quality assurance and review.  They consistently role model NZMA values and are a capable leader who leads by example.

This is a full-time role, and it is preferable that it is based in Auckland.

Title:
Quality Assurance and Programme Development Manager  

Reports to: General Manager – Quality & Academic Development
Location: Auckland

Role Purpose:
This role leads the implementation of Quality Assurance throughout NZMA, through both managing and leading staff within the Quality Assurance and Programme Development Team, fostering understanding and support for the highest levels of quality assurance, and then working with managers across the organisation to ensure this is reflected in the practices of staff across NZMA.

The Quality Assurance and Programme Development Manager leads the development of programmes for NZMA resulting in strong graduate outcomes and successful business outcomes.  They ensure NZMA has access to high quality programmes which meet all approval and academic requirements and reflect the NZMA graduate profile.  They also work with academic staff to ensure that all programmes are effectively delivered within approval requirements. They work closely and co-operatively with the remainder of the internal Senior Management Team and the overarching support functions of NZMA.

Organisational self-assessment

Objectives
  • All NZMA staff have a clear understanding of the ‘whole of organisation’ self-assessment requirements, and how this relates to improvements in student’s experience, outcomes, and continuing to meet stakeholder needs
  • Plan, facilitate/manage organisational self-assessment activities to support constant ‘external evaluation’ readiness
  • Undertake academic programme reviews, as required, to ensure relevance and currency of all programmes
Key Performance Indicators
  • Areas for improvement are identified and the relevant campus/academic team are assisted in developing and actioning their action plan.
Key Accountability
Quality assurance systems and processes 

Objectives
  • Continually analyse current QA/Academic systems and processes; identify issues/problems and work to create suitable solutions.  Co-ordinate the implementation and documentation of any changes to existing systems and all new systems.
  • Manage the upkeep and maintenance of the QMS to reflect the most up to date practices and policy regulations
  • Manage the upkeep and maintenance of the student handbook, continually meeting most up to date practice and policy regulations
  • Support academic staff through the student complaints and appeals processes
Key Performance Indicators 
  • NZMA and applicable UP Education QA policies and procedures are complied with at all times
  • All complaints and appeals are dealt with fairly, in a timely manner and within NZMA/NZQA rules
  • Annual calendar of QA dates and deadlines effectively communicated, and accountabilities are understood by relevant teams

Programme development and review

Objectives

  • Regular feedback is sought from relevant industries and sectors and used to perform programme development and planning
  • Direct and support the Quality Assurance and Programme Development Team members in the development and design of relevant programmes, and fair and robust assessment material

  • Appropriate programmes are developed and approval and accreditation is achieved
  • Programme design maximises successful recruitment and delivery to target demographic
  • Assessment tasks are robust, valid, and fair. The quality of assessment tasks and judgement is evidenced by successful moderation

Relationship Management

Objectives
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships throughout the business, in particular with the Senior Management Team and all Academic Teams, and other support service
  • Build and maintain an on-going, effective, productive and professional relationship with NZQA
  • Networks within Tertiary Education bodies, Funding Bodies, and Accreditation/approval Bodies are developed and maintained
  • Act as an ambassador for NZMA at all times and perform the duties of the position in accordance with the organisations core values.
  • Act as a role model for tutors within NZMA, ensure that  behaviour, conduct, appearance, attitude and dress are of the required standard

  • Acts as the first point of contact with NZQA, management respond to all enquiries; enabling a smooth, timely and successful outcome
  • Positive and pro-active relationships are maintained with relevant ITO’s and industry bodies
