Role Purpose:  A key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Academic Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for providing leadership to ensure the quality and integrity of all academic and regulatory compliance frameworks across the Creative and ICT Colleges.  This is undertaken in a way that inspires high quality education and maintains and protects the Creative & ICT Colleges Group’s EER Category 1 Provider status.

Key Accountabilities


  • Assume overall responsibility for ensuring that the organisation has a clear understanding of the importance of academic quality, internal and external moderation and the continuous self-assessment process, for the long-term success of our students and the organisation
  • Lead the Quality team to achieve success by helping them to understand and embed the vision and objectives
  • Manage team performance to a high standard and actively encourage a culture of coaching, self-reflection, personal development and improvement
  • Ensure that all team members are motivated and inspired to understand sector developments and that this involves regularly reviewing, refining and developing academic and general quality assurance systems, processes and policies as well as attendance at relevant events
  • Clear objectives and vision for the team articulated with KPIs and objectives in place that support this
  • Employee satisfaction and retention results

  • Expertly manage the relationship with NZQA, both strategically and on a day to day basis
  • Oversee regulatory audit and compliance across the group in a way that ensures all courses and programmes are approved, accredited, monitored and delivered in accordance with governing policies and procedures
  • Keep up to date on any developments, research, legislative and regulatory changes that have relevance to programmes of study delivered within the group
  • Communicate in a way that ensures clear understanding of, and commitment to, the importance of academic quality and continuous self-assessment processes
  • Enable staff to work with processes that ensure risks are identified and mitigated by undertaking a seamless approach
  • Facilitate a group-wide culture of excellence, transparency and accountability     No compliance issues raised from regulatory authorities Teams have clarity of vision and processes along with clear escalation points (via surveys) should issues be identified

  • Lead the on-going review and improvement of academic systems and process to ensure best practise and maintenance of EER category 1 status·
  • Design and implement a rigorous single entity academic quality framework for the Creative and IT Colleges Group, this will involve merging a number of business areas 
  • Lead the process for programme development with clear framework for programme development, programme setup and compliance
  • EER status HC, HC across the Creative Colleges
  • Clear, consistent and well communicated processes, guidelines and annual plans for the following:
-          programme set-up (including annual intakes and updates to intake schedules)
-          Compliance returns
           - Moderation
           - Programme review
           - Academic calendar
           - Tutor training/induction
           - LLN for students
-          STEO approvals
- Student evaluations
  • Regular reporting to Exec on status of programme development programme  


Develop and implement the Group QMS strategy and other related guidelines.
Hold the ability to scan the regulatory environment, impact assess situations and provide sound, strategic, advice to CEO and SLT
Put in place a framework that ensures all regulatory processes are adhered to and requirements are met across the group
Implement and ensure maintenance of appropriate risk, breach, incident and complaints registers

  • Single Group QMS rolled out to the Group and regularly audited and improved
  • Active involvement and voice for our Group in the regulatory environment and regularly advising business on the best approach to take when there are threats/opportunities in the environment
  • work constructively with government agencies to identify and deal with any problems that arise and actively work with them to improve the timeliness, consistency, standard, legality and responsiveness of their processes  

    To be successful you will have:   
  • Extensive experience in a senior quality assurance management role, ideally within the education sector and private education 
  • Experience of working in a quality assurance role where Bachelor (Level 7 and above) qualifications are awarded and part of the academic delivery
  • Knowledge and intricate understanding of the NZ tertiary sector, in particular NZQA/TEC/NCEA education processes
  • Demonstrated ability to operationalize strategic plans effectively
  • Exceptional communication, presentation and influencing skills
  • Proven ability to lead and manage high-performance Academic and Quality teams of people effectively to achieve set compliance/regulatory goals and targets
